Academic Summary
David Appleby has been making documentary films for thirty-five years. He began teaching
at the University of Memphis in 1977 where he began producing films on regional subjects
– independently and for public television. When he was awarded a Kellogg Fellowship
in International Development in 1987, he began to concentrate his film work on community
development issues and civil rights. His films have aired nationally on PBS, ABC,
and A&E.
