Communication Major (B.A.) A. University General Education Program (41 hours) B. Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) (18-19 hours) C. The Major (33-37 hours) D. Electives (2 - 20 hours) Completion of courses to bring the total to 120 semester hours. Major Core (6 hours) All students must take COMM 1780 Introduction to Human Communication and 2381 Oral Communication (included in the University General Education Program). A 2.0 cumulative GPA is required for all courses completed in the major. In addition, all students must fulfill the requirements for one of the following concentrations: a. Communication (31 hours): COMM 3001 Rhetoric and Civic Controversy (3) or 3002 Theories of Human Communication (3) COMM 3003 Television and Culture (3) COMM 3321 Argumentation and Debate (3) COMM 3330 Communication Research Methods (4) COMM 4381 Senior Seminar in Rhetoric and Communication (3) Plus 15 additional hours in Communication. b. Film and Video Production (27-29 hours): One of: COMM 3003 Television and Culture (3) 4360 American Eloquence (3) or 4850 Film History I (3) Plus COMM 3823 Motion Picture Production I (4) COMM 3824 Motion Picture Production II (4) COMM 3842 Television Studio Production I (4) Plus three of : COMM 4822 Audio Production for Film and Video (3) COMM 4824 Cinematography/Videography (3) COMM 4825 Editing and Post-Production (3) COMM 4841 Television workshop (4) COMM 4842 Television Studio Production II (4) COMM 4891 Producing and Directing for Film and Video (3) COMM 4960 Documentary Writing (3) or COMM 4970 Screenwriting (3) Plus one of: (Selection may not include course used to satisfy core) COMM 3003 Television and Culture (3) COMM 4220-29 Special Topics in Film (1-3) COMM 4850 Film History I (3) COMM 4851 Film History II (3) COMM 4853 Documentary Form in Film (3) COMM 4854 Documentary Form in Broadcasting (3) COMM 4856 Women and Film (3) COMM 4857 History of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, or COMM 4858 Contemporary Cinema (3) |
