The Center for Partnerships in GIS (CPGIS) is dedicated to the understanding, applications, and advancement of GIS technology and science in managing spatial resources and systems. CPGIS focuses on increasing broader utilizations of GIS through research and education and by demonstrating problem-solving applications of GIS science through real-world community projects.

CPGIS is very fortunate to be housed by and supported by the University of Memphis. The University of Memphis provides the ESRI® GIS service platform campus-wide for classroom instruction and for faculty and student use. In addition to providing state-of-the-art office space and technological support the University encourages the multidisciplinary integration of engineering, earth sciences, urban planning, transportation and other specialized disciplines within the cadre of CPGIS staff. CPGIS offers free technical and user assistance to all faculty and graduate and undergraduate students as well as instructional seminars for faculty and public/private practitioners on the use of GIS in research and the more technical components of ESRI® software.

The use of multidisciplinary teams and faculty-student and student-student mentoring has made CPGIS a working model for providing academic support services, advancing scientific research, facilitating community oriented project designs, and completing contract work. Contractual services include GIS data migration from legacy systems, spatial analyses, mobile data collection, and web development for interactive mapping. Through its broad scope of research and contractual services CPGIS has proven to be highly recognized for its partnership with other universities and local, state and federal government, non-profit organizations, and private industry.
