The vast majority of the University's $50 million/year in externally supported research
may be classified as STEM research, particularly if a broad definition of STEM is
employed. The University's signature STEM areas of expertise are within the traditional STEM
disciplines of engineering, chemistry, biology, physics, computer and information
sciences, mathematics, geosciences, and cognitive/learning science discipline-specific
and interdisciplinary activities.
