The Center for Research on Women (CROW) at the University of Memphis hosts several
Research Interest Groups (RIGs). The RIGs are designed to bring together interdisciplinary
groups of scholars from the university to develop collaborative research ideas related
to the core mission of the center, the study of gender as it intersects with race,
class, and social inequality.
Current Research Interest Groups:
Women’s Health (Joy Clay, Chair)
Sexual Orientation and Gender Identification (Sharon Horne, Chair)
Women in the Arts and Humanities (Leigh Anne Duck, Chair)
Women and the Environment (Keri Brondo, Chair)
Women, Globalization and the U.S. South (Wanda Rushing, Chair)
Women and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) (Amy Curry, Chair)
Women and Work (Phyllis Betts, Chair)
Women and the Environment (Chair TBA)
Examples of RIG Activities:
- Developing and implementing a collaborative research project
- Developing and submitting a grant proposal
- Organizing a panel, workshop or symposium
- Organizing a performance or exhibit
- Creating an edited volume of works relevant to the RIG's goals
- Organizing a reading or discussion group
