Women's History Month 2013
Women Making History Every Day

This year for Women's History Month the University of Memphis Community is celebrating
"Women Making History Every Day" to celebrate, not only the historical women who have
paved the way for change and advancement for women, but also the everyday women in
our lives who have contributed to making change right in our own homes and communities.
We invite you to participate in celebrating women this month by attending the events
below.
Unless otherwise noted, all events are free and open to the public.

March 1, 12 pm -2:00 pm, UC Ballroom
Opening celebration: A Personal Journey Through Women's History
Dr. Janann Sherman, Chair, History Department will share what she has learned about
the historical women she has researched over her career, and how these women have
shaped her own journey.
This event is in recognition of Dr. Sherman's scholarship on American women, service
to the UofM, and leadership in the Memphis community.

Get Involved: Donating Goods to Memphis Family Shelter
The Memphis Family Shelter has helped 247 women make a better life for themselves
and their children. Get involved by donating goods to their shelter.
Wish list: non-perishable food items; toilet/Kleenex tissue; paper towels & laundry liquid;
body soap; liquid dish soap; children & adult allergy medication; women's personal
needs; gauze & bandages; baby wipes & pampers; baby plastic bottles & sippy cups;
lotion; towels; teaching aids for basic skills; school supplies.
Non-cash donations will also be accepted at AFROTC, Hayden Hall 118

on Islamic Art.
Sister Rashid helped launch the International Museum of Muslim Cultures (IMMC) in Jackson, MS.

The Mr. Gentleman Pageant is a philanthropic showcase of fraternity men at the UofM.
Men from the Interfraternity (IFC) & the National Pan-Hellenic (NPHC) councils will

lives.

The Loewenberg School of Nursing, in support of Women's History Month, will host an
event celebrating women in nursing from the past, present, and future. The campus

hear a short bio on a nurse from the past, present, or future!
