Clinic Requirements for Graduation
The successful completion of the clinical experience is required to graduate from
the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Memphis. All
students in the Master’s program with the emphasis in Speech-Language Pathology are
required to complete the clinical competencies outlined in the 2005 ASHA Standards for Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology; the 1993 ASHA requirements to insure qualification for state licensure; and additional
practicum experiences required by the School. Completion of these requirements will
provide students with a broad experience across the scope of practice as well as prepare
them to qualify for ASHA Certification, Tennessee Teacher License, and state licensure
in most states.
The additional U of M requirements are: 1. At least 125 clock hours of the total 375 must be obtained under the direct supervision
of the faculty at The University of Memphis. 2. A minimum of fifteen (15) hours in treatment/evaluation/prevention of voice disorders 3. A minimum of fifteen (15) hours in treatment/evaluation of fluency disorders 4. Students must complete a minimum of one semester in a diagnostic practicum under
the direct supervision of a faculty member at The U of M.
