Senior Campaign

Class of 2010, become a part of something special and participate in the 2010 Common Cents Senior Campaign.

“Common Cents”, the student giving program at the University of Memphis was created to provide students with the opportunity to make a contribution to the University and to help students understand the role that private support plays in sustaining the U of M.  Our goal is to set an example for students and future alumni by demonstrating early the importance of giving back.

What is the Common Cents Senior Campaign?

As part of the 2010 Common Cents Senior Campaign, seniors are encouraged to give during their senior year to the class campaign and, by doing so, are made aware of the institution's needs for private giving. Through this campaign and other program initiatives, the desire is to educate our students on their role as Alumni and to inspire them to have a continuous lifelong involvement with the University.

What do I get?

Aside from the wonderful feeling you get any time you make a charitable contribution and knowing that you did something to make an impact at a place you care about, you will also receive the the following:

  • All donors to the 2010 Common Cents Senior Campaign will be recognized online as a member of the Common Cents Student Giving Society
  • Those who contribute at least $20.10 and make a two-year pledge will also receive a "Memphis Blue" cord  to wear at graduation and will be recognized in the commencement booklet.  Seniors who make a gift will be able to pick up their cord in the office of annual giving anytime during regular business hours.  Students will also have the option of picking up their pin during cap and gown distribution.

Where does the money go?

With the new University Center opening this semester, it has been decided that the funds generated from the 2010 campaign would be used to purchase artwork  that would be placed in the University Center.  A small plaque below the artwork will display that this piece was given by the Class of 2010 Senior Campaign.  Please remember that when you go to make your gift to designate your donation to the Common Cents Fund.

Why Does U of M Need Private Support?

Tuition and state funding provide approximately 2/3 of the University's revenue each year. The remaining revenue must be generated through competitive grants, sales, and the loyal support of alumni, friends, parents and students. The Senior Campaign strives to get students in the habit of giving back to the university we love.
