A Tribute to Theopolis Holeman

Theopolis Holeman

National Alumni Association Executive Board of Directors member, longtime member of the Herff College of Engineering Advisory Council and loyal University of Memphis supporter, Theopolis Holeman (BSET '71), lost his brief, yet very brave fight with cancer on September 12.

Holeman was named the 2008 Outstanding Alumnus of the U of M’s Herff College of Engineering. He was group vice president of U.S. operations for Spectra Energy, one of North America’s leading natural gas infrastructure companies serving three key links in the natural gas value chain: gathering and processing, transmission and storage and distribution. Holeman formerly served as senior vice president of power delivery for Duke Energy, one of the largest electrical power companies in the United States. Holeman has also been recognized as one of the “Top 75 Most Powerful Black Executives in the U.S.” by Black Enterprise magazine.

On his education from the University of Memphis:

“My experience at the University of Memphis helped to ignite a passion for continuous learning. It taught me to remain a work-in-progress and to always have a thirst for learning. While I was at the University, I found a comfort and a confidence in who I am and what I have to offer. My time here provided a foundation for service and the importance of being a positive influence.”
