Women’s Leadership & Philanthropy Council

Women have been essential to the founding, growth, and success of the University of Memphis since its inception in 1912. 100 years later, women are uniquely positioned to increase their impact by contributing time, talent, and resources to cement the University of Memphis one of the nation’s leading metropolitan universities.

Our centennial presents us with an opportunity to celebrate and engage women in the current and future life of the university in new and meaningful ways.

The formation of the Women’s Leadership & Philanthropy Council has three immediate and long term benefits for our University and community:

1. Expose women to the best programs, faculty, experts, and opportunities have to offer,  creating life-long learners and advocates for the university.

2. Inspire participants to assume leadership roles within the University, giving women more visibility, power, and agency to shape the future of the University.

3. Diversify and expand the number of women who support the University across age, socio-economic status, and education levels so that more women discover how their contributions make a difference at the University of Memphis.

"When women work together to support and encourage one another, they generate an unparalleled force for change." -Dr. Shirley C. Raines
