Investing in Women

Why is the University of Memphis starting a Women’s Leadership & Philanthropy Initiative?

Because when women work together for the good of our university and our community, we are an unparalleled force for change.

For more than 100 years, women have made vital contributions to the University of Memphis. It was the women of the Nineteenth Century Club who first crusaded to establish a four-year women’s college in Memphis. Those efforts ultimately led to the University’s founding in 1912.

100 Years, 100 Women: One hundred women who have made a difference at the University of Memphis

Today, the commitment of our alumnae and friends is more important than ever to the success of the university and our students. Our commitment to enhancing opportunities for women and supporting the next generation of leaders to their full potential led to the launch of the Women's Leadership & Philanthropy Initiative - a network for women to connect, collaborate, and develop as leaders and philanthropists:

  • Unite the female leaders of today with those of tomorrow.
  • Engage women with the best faculty, programs, and opportunities the university has to offer, creating life-long learners and advocates for the U of M.
  • Inspire women to assume volunteer leadership roles at the U of M, giving women more visibility and power to shape the future of the University.
  • Increase the number of women who support the U of M across age, socio-economic status, and education levels so that more women discover how their contributions make a difference at the University of Memphis.

We invite you to discover and celebrate the individual and collective accomplishments of our alumnae and friends through the Women's Leadership and Philanthropy Initiative.
