MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
The following are minimum requirements for all students that receive scholarships under the S-STEM program:
- Students must be a current student at the U of M or have applied for admission to The University of Memphis and have sent all transcripts to the Registrar.
- Students must demonstrate financial need, defined by the US Department of Education
rules for need-based Federal financial aid (students must complete Federal Student
Aid FAFSA application to determine financial eligibility).
- Students must be United States Citizens, Nationals of the United States (as defined
in Section 101 (a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act), aliens admitted as refugees
under Section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or aliens lawfully admitted
to the United States for permanent residence.
- Students must be enrolled full-time (12 hours or more) in engineering, engineering
technology, computer science, mathematics, biology, chemistry, geological sciences,
or physics undergraduate degree programs.
- Students must have at least a 2.6 cumulative GPA.
AWARD CRITERIA
The S-STEM committee will select a diverse group of scholarship recipients across
the eligible programs: In addition, the S-STEM committee will award scholarships
using the following criteria.
- Overall student GPA as well as performance in the last 2 semesters.
- Preference will be given to students who will be able to graduate within two years
as demonstrated by the completion of at least 60 hours toward their degree before
the scholarship is awarded.
- Evidence of good character, motivation, and professionalism as documented in two letters
of recommendation.
- Students who have higher financial need as determined by FAFSA may be given priority
over students with comparable academic achievement.
- Students agreeing to not be employed in a position unrelated to their major during the fall and spring semester
may be given priority over students who do not.
Once awarded, S-STEM scholarships will continue as long as:
- The student has not received their degree, but continues to make satisfactory progress
toward an eligible degree (completes at least 12 hours per semester toward their degree).
- The student has satisfactory performance in S-STEM related program activities.
- The student maintains at least a 2.0 grade point average each semester.
- The student continues to satisfy financial eligibility requirements.
- Funds are available.
