"Secrets of the Stargate"
Dr. Stuart Tyson Smith, Professor of Anthropology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, will present a free public lecture about his experiences as an "Hollywood Egyptologist" on the afternoon of Sunday November 15, 2009.
Lecture: 2:00 p.m. Location: Manning Hall Auditorium, room 201 The University of Memphis Campus
The lecture and reception are FREE and Open to the Public

Dr. Stuart Tyson Smith is professor of Anthropology at the University of California at Santa Barbara. The civilizations of ancient Egypt and Nubia provide the focus of his research. In 1993, he took a break from the academic world and served as an Egyptological consultant on the MGM movie "Stargate." He shared his expertise help shape the script, sets and costumes. In addition, he helped recreate the spoken sound of the ancient Egyptian language for about of half the movie's dialog.
He renewed his Hollywood connection in 1998 by consulting on the Universal remake of "The Mummy," and in 2000 for "The Mummy Returns.
Dr. Smith received his Doctorate in Egyptology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He has published three books and over three dozen popular and scholarly articles and reviews.
