About Tracy Horton
Tracy Horton came to the University of Memphis in October 2015. Prior to joining the UofM, he served as the Associate Director of Human Resources and Affirmative Action at Southwest Tennessee Community College. His employment began as a student worker in 1990 with State Technical Institute at Memphis where he worked his way up and later joined the Human Resources Department in 1993 as a Personnel Assistant. Mr. Horton has over 20 years of HR experience, which includes but not limited to clerical services, management and development, employee relations, benefits, and training and advisement. In 2013, he was promoted to Associate Director of HR where his responsibilities within the department increased to include coordinating HR policies and programs with an emphasis on employee relations. Horton also ensures that the organization is in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations and works in developing, implementing and evaluating ongoing HR policies, programs, functions and activities.
He received his Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Operations from State Technical Institute at Memphis in 1995 and a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Organizational Leadership degree from the University of Memphis in 2009. Additionally, he received a Certificate in Internal Investigation from the Council on Education in Management in association with George Washington University in 2009, and he is a State of Tennessee Notary Public. In 2013, Mr. Horton received the 2013 Human Resources and Affirmative Action Executive Director's Award for Excellence at Southwest Tennessee Community College.
