We
at The University of Memphis wish to express our sympathy
to the family and friends of Kemmons Wilson. We are grateful
that we were able to work with him to achieve one of his great
dreams, the Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort
Management at The University of Memphis. Visiting the second
floor of The University of Memphis Holiday Inn, one can trace
the amazing life of this great entrepreneur, who changed an
industry. His entrepreneurial spirit will live on in our work
at The U of M and will inspire graduates for generations.

Did You Know?

The
University will celebrate its 90th anniversary March 27-28
with an array of events designed to draw attention to its
history and a glimpse into the future.
As part of the anniversary celebration, former U of M President
V. Lane Rawlins will be on hand as the University's new clock
tower and bookstore facilities are named in his honor. The
V. Lane Rawlins University Services Court Building and Clock
Tower will become official in a ceremony to be held at 4:30
p.m. on Thursday, March 27. Dr. Rawlins is now president of
Washington State University. Other past presidents have also
been invited to attend.
Thursday's lineup includes an outdoor festival, featuring
an homage to the Musical History of Memphis produced by the
Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, the dedication of the student
plaza, including the Legacy Campaign bricks. A special ceremony
will include President Shirley Raines, Chancellor Charles
Manning and attendees from each of the centers, colleges and
universities within the Tennessee Board of Regents system.
The Board is holding its quarterly meeting at The U of M campus
March 27-28.
The University's annual faculty convocation will be held at
2 p.m. on Friday in the Michael D. Rose Theatre Lecture Hall.
The public is invited to attend the anniversary ceremony and
dedication on the 27th as well as faculty convocation on the
28th.

In
addition to celebrating the University's 90th anniversary,
we are in the midst of remembering a very special time in
Tiger basketball history, the 1972-73 basketball season.
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 1973 Final Four
basketball team, Memphis's FOX 13 will broadcast a special
including interviews with the Tigers, coach Gene Bartow, UCLA
coach John Wooden, Bill Walton, and other UCLA players. The
special is being produced by Emmy award-winning producer Paul
Sloan.
The show will air March 5 at 9:30 p.m and will be rebroadcast
on March 8 at 6 p.m. and is sponsored by The University of
Memphis Alumni Association.

Career
and Employment Services and the College of Education will
host the eleventh annual Mid-South Education Fair on Wednesday,
Feb. 26 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Michael D. Rose Theatre
Lecture Hall. Approximately 40 to 60 school systems will be
in attendance (some outside the region) to recruit teacher
candidates for the 2003 academic year.

and dress professionally the day of the fair. There is no
charge to alumni who wish to attend this event.
