The Grand Opening Celebration of the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law

Grand Opening CelebrationThe Law Alumni Chapter, in collaboration with the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, is hosting the Grand Opening Celebration of the new home of the Law School on Saturday, January 16, 2010. The sold out Grand Opening Gala will take place throughout the entire building and will feature entertainment from the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music and other local legends. Gourmet food stations will offer “Best of Memphis” cuisine from local restaurants. During a brief formal program University President Shirley C. Raines, School of Law Dean Kevin Smith, Capital Campaign Chairman Charles Tuggle, and President and CEO of FedEx Express David Bronczek will collectively tell the story of the “Countdown to Downtown---Vision to Reality.” Law school students will administer building tours and will be honored with a late-night gathering after the conclusion of the event. DeSoto County Reception Set for Students Considering the U of M

DeSoto County ReceptionDo you know someone considering the U of M?
Students who are interested in attending the University of Memphis are invited to a reception on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Desoto Civic Center in Southaven.

Representatives from the U of M’s Office of Recruitment and Orientation Services will be there to provide students and their families with information about the application and admissions process, the in-state tuition waiver that is available to students in DeSoto, Marshall, Tate, and Tunica counties in Mississippi, and the many scholarship opportunities offered through the University.

More than 900 students from North Mississippi currently attend the U of M, and more than 100 of these students have been awarded academic or performance scholarships.

 


Alumni Association Spotlights FCBE Alumnus

Wesley KrakerThe Fogelman College of Business and Economics is proud of alumnus Wesley Kraker (BBA ’85 Cum Laude). Wes is involved at the University of Memphis as an Alumni Association member and a contributor to the Fogelman College and the Athletics Department.

Through the skills he learned at the University of Memphis, Wes is a successful business owner and President/CEO of Pathmark Transportation, a 27-year old transportation logistics company and is part owner of Lucchesi’s Ravioli and Pasta Company.

Kraker is not only a leader in business, he is also a leader in the Memphis community. He has served as chairman of the Stanford St. Jude Championship, St. Jude Classic, and was the Co-Chairman of Marguerite Pizza St. Jude Gala. Wes is also a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, serving as a former President of the Men’s Club and a member of the Parish Council.

Wes has set an example for all alumni of the University of Memphis by being involved with his college and the Memphis community. Wes and his wife Becky reside in Memphis with their five children.

The University of Memphis Alumni Association will be hosting a membership table and collecting updated contact information at all men’s home basketball games.  Stop by the table near the FedExForum entrance, give us your contact info, and collect your complimentary gift!  The True Blue Bus will be on hand before the Tigers take on Gonzaga and all C-USA games with poms and face stickers.  Look for the Bus in the entrance plaza!

Introducing The FAM (Future Alumni of Memphis)!
The University of Memphis Alumni Association is proud to introduce its newest student group, the FAM! The FAM is the student-based extension of the Alumni Association.  The organization officially launched at the beginning of the 2010 spring semester and membership is open to all current U of M students. The FAM’s first annual event will be the Blue and Gray Ball on Saturday, February 13.  U of M students are invited to Central Station in Downtown Memphis for a night full of great music by DJ D-LO, dancing, and food, with special performances by Ingram Hill and American Idol finalist Alexis Grace! Alumni Association Members Eligible for Scholarships
Children and grandchildren of current Alumni Association members are encouraged to apply for the Alumni Association Scholarship. Applications are out now for this four-year scholarship worth $1000/year ($500/semester) for students who are planning on entering the U of M as first-time freshmen. The scholarship program encourages family of Alumni Association members to make the U of M their first choice for higher education. Association for Women Attorneys
Please join the Association for Women Attorneys for their annual banquet at the Racquet Club on Thursday, January 21 as Janet Richards, University of Memphis Law School Professor, is honored. The evening includes a cocktail hour, dinner and silent auction. Tickets are $50 for AWA members, $60 for non-members, and $25 for law students.
