Orleans Events and Local Watch Parties Set
Celebrating
50 Years of Soul at the Distinguished Alumni Awards

A number of activities are
scheduled for Tiger fans headed to New Orleans for the NCAA
tournament, as well as those staying behind to cheer on the
Tigers. All events are sponsored by the University of Memphis
Alumni Association. All New Orleans events will be held at the
team hotel, the Wyndham New Orleans at 100 Iberville St., New
Orleans, LA 70130.
From 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March
15, Tiger fans should come by the Welcome Table in the
lobby of the Wyndham to pick up their pom-poms, Mardi Gras
beads and U of M temporary tattoos.
On Friday, March
16, a pre-game Pep Rally will be held from 9:30 to 11
a.m. in the 12th floor ballroom at the Wyndham. Complimentary
pastries and coffee will be served. The Tigers tip off against
North Texas at 11:30 a.m.
Two hours before Sunday's
tip off (game time not set yet), there will be another Pep
Rally in the 12th floor ballroom at the Wyndham with
complimentary snacks and coffee provided.
For those
Tiger fans who can't make the trip, a number of local Watch
Parties are being sponsored by the U of M Alumni
Association. During game times, food and drink specials are
available at most locations. Arrive early, pick your spot and
cheer the Tigers to victory!

Join us for the 2007
Distinguished Alumni Awards, Saturday, April 14, at the Gibson
Guitar Factory. The music will be hot, the drinks cold and the
parking absolutely free. The event begins at 7:30 p.m.
Get ready to party with music from four bands and a
variety of food and drinks throughout the venue. Dress is
black tie with soul. Fun and funky.

Ph.D. '74), Barbara K. Lipman (B.S.Ed. '83) and H.
Frank Ricks Jr. (B.S.E.T. '77) will receive the
Distinguished Alumni Award. Isaac Hayes and David
Porter will be recognized as Distinguished University
Friends. David Kustoff (B.B.A. '89, J.D. '92) will be
named Outstanding Young Alumnus, and Louis J. Strasberg
(B.B.A. '68) will receive the J. Millard Smith Illustrious
Service to the Association Award.

Have you always wanted to show
your Tiger spirit in Mississippi with a specialty license
plate? Now's your chance! Orders are now being accepted for a
University of Memphis special tag in Mississippi.
To
order yours, fill out the application and mail a check for $51
to the address on the form by May 1, 2007. Once 200
Mississippians submit applications and the fee, the
Mississippi State Tax Commission will approve the tag and it
will be put into production. You will be contacted when the
tags are available for pickup.

March 19, the University of Memphis Music Society and the Rudi
E. Scheidt School of Music will host a wine and cheese
reception prior to a performance by the U of M Symphony

Arts and
Sciences Seeking Nominations for Outstanding Alumnus
Award The Arts and Sciences Alumni Chapter needs your
nomination for the 2007 Outstanding Alumnus Award. Each year
the chapter presents this award to a deserving Arts and
Sciences graduate at its fall alumni awards dinner. We
encourage you to nominate any graduate who demonstrates
outstanding achievement in academic pursuits, research
activities or community involvement.
Please provide a
nomination letter that addresses the nominee's professional
accomplishments and the impact and influence on his or her
business profession, a letter of support from one other
individual unrelated to the candidate that addresses
professional and/or community contribution criteria, and any
additional information that would reflect on the nominee's
achievements, character or contributions to the larger
community. Members of the Arts and Sciences Alumni Chapter
board of directors are not eligible. The deadline for
