The
University of Memphis is establishing a research foundation
to accelerate its research agenda. Creation of The University
of Memphis Research Foundation (UMRF) is an important
milestone in reaching our goal of becoming a major urban research
university.
The Foundation will enhance existing research activities and
foster greater flexibility for research-related business transactions,
including technology transfer, licensing, contracting, equity
participation, and future business incubation.
It will help create funding sources for future research and
provide incentives for faculty and help the University attract
and retain outstanding researchers. UMRF will support the
University's ongoing commitment to research, including biotech
initiatives, digital, and technological research, which should
ultimately promote regional economic development.
The Foundation should be fully operative by the beginning
of the Spring 2003 semester.
The
Herff College of Engineering will hold its annual "Eday"
open house on Nov. 22. Alumni, prospective students and friends
of the College are invited to attend the event, which will
be held at the Engineering Administration Building, 3795 Central
Ave., from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Eday attendees can discover the impact of engineers and engineering
technologists on society and find out about the variety of
degree programs and research at the College. During the morning
hours, hundreds of Memphis City and Shelby County school students
will participate in interactive exhibits designed to spark
their interest in engineering and engineering technology.
Faculty, staff and current students will be on hand to answer
questions and guide visitors through displays and interactive
exhibits.
