The FedEx Institute of Technology at the University
of Memphis will mark its one-year anniversary with an open
house Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
During
the open house, visitors can tour the facilities, learn more
about current research housed in the Institute and enjoy refreshments.
Lobby displays and demonstrations will showcase current research
being conducted by the Institute for Intelligent Systems,
Center for Multimedia Arts, Advanced Learning Center, Mars
Rover Program, Integrated Microscopy Center, Center for Supply
Chain Management and Center for Earthquake Research and Information.
Since
its opening last November, the Institute has hosted more than
200 events for organizations such as FedEx, Gov. Phil Bredesen,
MTV and the musculoskeletal industry. An estimated 50,000
people have visited the Institute, from Nobel Prize winner

To
raise funds for the station's operating budget, WUMR FM 91.7
will hold Radiothon III from Nov. 29 through Dec. 3. Gifts from
Radiothons I and II were used to purchase new equipment, defray
operating costs and hire the station's first full-time program
director.
In
addition to gifts, WUMR is still looking for volunteers to
staff the Radiothon. Volunteers generally work shifts of three
to four hours. To sign up for a shift, call 901/678-4843.
WUMR,
also known as "The Jazz Lover," is the only classic
jazz station in Memphis. The 25,000-watt station broadcasts
within a 60-mile radius of Memphis. The station's playlist
blends contemporary and traditional jazz, and it is staffed
almost exclusively by students and volunteers. As "the
radio voice of the University of Memphis," WUMR serves
the area with educational, sports and community service programming.
It functions as a learning laboratory for students, providing
experience in announcing, news reporting and writing, talk-show
hosting and sportscasting.
Join
us at Pat O'Brien's on Beale Street before every home
