"Welcome
Home" College of Business Alumni
FedEx Institute Opening Draws Near
Upcoming Alumni Events
Fogelman
College of Business and Economics alumni are invited to
attend a special "Welcome Home, Alumni" reception
Tuesday, Nov. 11 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the U of M Holiday
Inn. Alumni will have a chance to socialize with former classmates
and relive some of their college experiences through photos
of campus scenes, business organizations and events from 1940
to the present. In addition to reminiscing about the past,
alumni will get an update on recent achievements at the College
by Dean John Pepin.
"Our
alumni are the greatest asset of the Fogelman College of Business
and Economics," says Pepin. "And since 53 percent
of our alumni live in the Memphis area, they are an important
asset to the city. We want to let our alumni know that we
appreciate them, will communicate with them regularly, and
want their relationship with the Fogelman College to be a
lifelong experience."
"Welcome
Home, Alumni" is sponsored by the Business and Economics
chapter of the U of M Alumni Association. For more information,
call 901/678-3633.
 November
marks the beginning of a new era at the University of Memphis:
The University's FedEx Institute of Technology will open its
doors to the public for the first time. A daylong celebration
is planned for the opening, and alumni are invited to attend
the dedication, ribbon cutting and open house on Nov. 19 at
the building site (near the corner of Central Avenue and Patterson)
from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
The
Institute, hailed as the single largest project in school
history by President Shirley Raines, signals the U of M's
overwhelming commitment to cutting-edge research and technological
innovation. Slated to speak at the 11 a.m. dedication are
FedEx Corp. CEO Frederick W. Smith, President Raines
and other dignitaries. The official ribbon cutting immediately
follows the dedication.
The
open house will feature tours of the $23 million facility
and demonstrations and displays from research areas that will
be housed within the Institute, such as the Center for Intelligent
Systems.
