This course will assist the student in becoming a closer, better reader, one who can evaluate the merits of the written
word, find its argument and determine whether or not it is presented fairly and accurately.
By studying various methods of writing persuasively, students will create original
documents that will be designed to persuade audiences on issues as well as offer students
formats that will work in their chosen field of study. Throughout this course we will
be looking at how a writer says something, shares his/her opinions, and presents his/her
thoughts. This class will look at writing for business, editorial writing, methods of developing a written argument, and using or misusing statistics in argumentation. Debating topics will also be a part of this class.
