We welcome two new assistant professors and two new instructors for the 2009-2010 academic year.
Dr. Philip McCarthy is returning as an assistant professor in Applied Linguistics. Since receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Memphis in 2005, he has worked as a research scientist for the Institute for Intelligent Systems in the Department of Psychology and as a visiting assistant professor in our department.
John Miles joins the American Literature faculty. A Ph.D. candidate from Duke University, he was a visiting instructor at The College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y. during the 2008-2009 academic year. He was the 2007-2008 recipient of Duke's William Preston Few Graduate Research Fellowship.
Sarah Beth Tyler is a new instructor. She received her M. A. in literature from The University of Memphis in 2008, after which she worked at Jackson State Community College as a Writing Tutor and adjunct instructor.
Stacy Sharpe Smith also joins the faculty as an instructor. She is ABD in Literary and Textual Studies from our own department.
