Academic Summary

Dr. Ryan K. Guth teaches Composition, Literature, and Creative Writing. A believer in Freirean “problem-posing,” his goal for any course is the formation of a scholarly community where existing knowledge and skills can be shared, challenged, and evaluated in order to create new knowledge and competencies for all participants. A creative writer as well, he is interested in the possibilities of the mixed-genre collection as a literary form. His first book, Home Truths, draws on family history in the form of personal recollections and imaginative reconstructions, underpinned by the documentary evidence of letters and photographs. His second collection, Body and Soul, expands on these techniques to present the life story of an adult survivor of child sexual abuse. His current project, a third collection tentatively titled Livings, will explore the day-to-day personal lives of the famous Bronte family from 1845-1850, dramatizing interactions and fluctuating allegiances among members of the household.
