REQUIREMENTS:
- 3.25 GPA, overall and in English
- Successful completion of the Honors Program Admission Application
- One Honors Seminar
- The Honors Seminar, ENGL 4001, offers you the opportunity to work closely with professors
in their current areas of research. It allows for in-depth study and discussion and
also explore topics of interest from many perspectives in English scholarship.
- One thesis or major paper
- 6 additional hours of upper-division Honors credit in English
- These can be completed by enrolling in Honors sections of the required Core classes
in English, ENGL 3210, 3220 and 3227.
- If you are unable to take Honors sections of the Core for scheduling reasons, you
may contract for Honors credit in another class using the English Contract for Honors
form. Discuss options for productive extra classwork with your professor. These
might include class presentations, annotated bibliographies, or other research or
creative projects. Submit your form to the honors director (and the University Honors
Program, if you are participating in both programs) early in the semester.
- If you have taken two or more Core classes at another university, or if you have taken
Honors courses at another university, please contact the honors director to discuss
substitutions.
Honors students are encouraged to meet with the Honors Program Director during advising
sessions before each semester. Please note that the English Honors Program complements
the University Honors Program, providing extra advising and course opportunities to English majors who choose to
participate in the latter. You may enroll in only one, but you are encouraged to enroll
in both.
