The Undergraduate Creative Writing Program offers the opportunity for students to
concentrate in one of two areas: poetry and fiction. The program includes literature
courses, forms courses that examine the history of a genre from a writer's perspective,
and creative writing workshops in fiction, poetry or creative non-fiction. The degree
offered is a B.A. in English with a Concentration in Creative Writing.
In addition to the 12-hour English Core Requirement, Creative Writing majors must
choose 12 hours from the following list.

- 3607 Fiction Writing (W)
- 4599 Forms of Creative Nonfiction
- 4600 Creative Nonfiction Workshop
- 4601 Poetry Workshop (3606 must be taken first)
- 4603 Fiction Workshop (3607 must be taken first)
- 4604 Forms of Poetry
- 4605 Forms of Fiction
- 4900 Independent Study (only in Creative Writing)
- 4996 Honors Thesis (only in Creative Writing) (W)
Students must complete English 3606 and/or 3607 before enrolling in a 4000-level workshop.
Poetry Workshop (4601) and Fiction Workshop (4603) may each be taken twice within
the concentration.
