ET Prerequisite Waiver/Substitution Guidlines Features

All students are expected to follow the prerequisite structure associated with the core and each Field of Study.  Failure of a student to research the prerequisite structure through the undergraduate catalog and/or published curriculum flow charts, or failure to follow the recommendation of their academic advisor; or desire to avoid a particular instructor is not grounds for waiving a prerequisite.

Examples of instances that warrant consideration to waive a prerequisite or allow a substitute for a prerequisite include

  1. if the department cancels a course that serves as a prerequisite in a sequence of courses and doing so delays graduation for that student;
  2. if the department fails to honor or modifies the day/night rotation of course offerings and doing so delays graduation for that student; or
  3. the student demonstrates documentable proficiency in the knowledge and skills included in the prerequisite course.

Any exceptions require approval of the instructor of record, program coordinator and department chair and must be documented in the student’s advising file.
