Demetric Woods

Demetric Woods (BSET 2008) drove two hours each way from his hometown of Bolivar, Tenn., to the U of M campus. Woods impressed his professors by never missing a class and never complaining about the commute. After he graduated, Woods impressed them even more with the generous starting salary he received when hired by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Union City, Tenn., a plant where he had interned.

Engineering Technology Consolidates Its Majors Into One

NOTICE: Beginning with the Fall, 2009 semester all Engineering Technology courses will have the course prefix of “TECH.”  The previous course prefixes of CETH/EETH/METH will no longer be used.  Course numbers will remain unchanged except for Circuit Analysis (formerly EETH 2820). This course will now be TECH 2822.

Welcome to The University of Memphis Department of Engineering Technology home page!

Engineering Technology is the profession in which knowledge of mathematics and natural science, gained by higher education, experience, and practice, is devoted primarily to the implementation and extension of existing technology for the benefit of humanity. Engineering Technology education focuses primarily on the applied aspects of science and that portion of the technological spectrum closest to product improvement, industrial practices, and engineering operation functions.

Beginning with the Fall, 2009 semester the department offers a single Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (B.S.E.T.) degree.  This consolidated degree program is comprised of a comprehensive core and various fields of study from which the student may select in order to best fulfill their needs.  These fields of study have been assembled from the previous three separate majors in the department.

The Department of Engineering Technology historically offered three undergraduate majors leading to a degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (B.S.E.T). These majors are Computer, Electronics and Manufacturing Engineering Technology. Students currently in these programs will need to complete their degree requirements prior to August, 2010 at which time accreditation of these programs will expire.  Students who will not graduate prior to this date will need to update to the consolidated B.S.E.T. program.

The Department of Engineering Technology also offers a graduate program leading to the Master of Science degree in Engineering Technology (M.S.E.T.).  Students may select coursework in Computers and/or Electronics and/or Manufacturing. Students may elect to design their own course of study taken from the courses offered in these areas.
