In turbulent environments, it is imperative that effective leaders emerge and take
charge of charting a course through the turmoil. In this two-day program introduces
the fundamental concepts related to high performance leadership, i.e., leadership
designed to extract maximum involvement, participation and performance from work team
members. Characteristics and behavior patterns of high performance leaders are learned
and combined with specific communications skills that support the enactment of this
leadership. Assessments, exercises, & role-plays target specific skill development.

- Traits, characteristics and behaviors of high performance leaders
- Components and conditions of a high performance culture
- The fatal flaws of leaders who are derailed climbing the organizational hierarchy
- Listening techniques that enhance the development of strong relationships
- Supportive communication techniques to extract full potential from team members
- How to develop trust – a critical component of leadership
- How to give and receive performance feedback
Who Should Attend? Individuals holding positions across all levels of organizational hierarchies, including
non-management professionals whose job it is to get work accomplished with and through
peers and colleagues who are part of their work teams. This leadership program would
be especially appropriate for lower and mid-level managers aspiring to move up the
hierarchy, director level managers who have gained experience but feel a need for
more formal leadership education, supervisors who aspire to managerial positions,
small business owners and non-profit managers who must motivate volunteers.
Faculty: Bob Taylor, Ph.D. Dr. Taylor is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Management in
the Fogelman College of Business and Economics at The University of Memphis. He teaches
in the MBA, Executive MBA, and International MBA programs at the U of M, and has been
an invited instructor at the University of Lethbridge, Canada, The University of Eichstadt,
Germany and at the University of Arkansas Little Rock. He has written extensively
in a number of management areas and published a management textbook entitled Management:
Comprehension, Analysis, and Application. He won the UM Distinguished Teaching Award
in 1992 and has been a consultant/trainer for numerous local and national companies
and organizations since 1980.
