Now, more than ever, having a better understanding of the financial side of business
is critical. This one-day program is designed for managers and other business professionals
that could benefit from a basic understanding of finance-related concepts and analyses.
After completing the program, attendees will be able to interpret the most common
financial reports and be able to help prepare such reports. Attendees will also have
improved skills in presenting their ideas, strategies, and plans using appropriate
financial vocabulary, and will be better equipped to make decisions such as buy versus
rent, invest versus divest, etc.

- Time value of money
- Earnings power, Du-Pont Analysis of activity drivers, and appropriate discount rate
with diversification
- Corporate Finance concepts - understanding capital budgeting, cost of capital, and
day to day working capital management
- Risk exposures and risk management tools
- Financial Markets - perspectives will be provided both for corporations accessing
the markets to raise capital and for investors who want to maximize their return and
minimize their risk
- Basic valuation principles

Faculty: P.K. Jain, CFA, Ph.D.
Dr. Pankaj (P.K.) Jain teaches Finance to Ph.D., MBA, and undergraduate students at
the Fogelman College of Business & Economics at the University of Memphis. He held
the Morgan Keegan Professorship during 2004-2005 and Suzanne D. Palmer Professorship
in 2006-07. His M.B.A. is from Indian Institute of Management (I.I.M.), law education
from University of Mumbai, and his Masters and Ph.D. are from Kelley School of Business
at Indiana University. He has published his international research on investments
and financial market design in leading journals such as Journal of Finance, Journal
of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Research, and Contemporary Accounting
Research. He serves as one of the directors of the Memphis Center of International
Business Education and Research (CIBER) sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.
His industry experience includes 3 years with a leading investment bank and present
consulting ties with the world’s foremost financial and information organizations
such as the New York Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, and Google Inc.
