The Executive MBA Health-System Pharmacy Concentration is a 41 credit-hour program
that can be completed in 17 months. All students generally progress together through
the program, with some flexibility built in to allow specialization based on the background
and needs of the executive cohort. Courses are offered in a variety of formats, including
in-class sessions as part of intensive residential weeks, technology-enhanced instruction,
hybrid learning sessions, and an innovation project. Learning materials and content
are specially designed for health-system pharmacy executives in all formats.
Prior to matriculation into the program, students will be required to complete prerequisite
assignments / readings that will be assigned to them several weeks in advance.
***An inaugural pilot class of the EMBA in Hospital System Pharmacy launched in Memphis
August 12, 2011. The next cohort begins August 2012 in Memphis, TN.
Segment 1
Intensive Residential Week– Each August, the Executive MBA Health-System Pharmacy Program admits a select cohort
of health system pharmacy managers and other professionals to enter the 17-month,
lock-step program. The Executive MBA year begins in mid-August with a residential week in Tennessee.
In this dynamic, off-site environment, students complete intensive courses in business
innovation, strategic and critical thinking, and leadership and team building.
Following the residential week, intensive Executive MBA classes will be offered in
a combination of two courses taken in-class and one course taken on-line during the
fall and spring semesters, with students taking three core courses each semester,
and in the summer, with one core course. At the beginning of the Spring semester,
students will participate in the second residential week held in Memphis.
Segment 2
Intensive Residential Week – Executive MBA students begin Segment 2 with an intensive residential week in August.
The focus of this residential week is exposure to current and emerging health systems
pharmacy issues and exploration of alternative solutions. The location of this residential
week will be held at a location convenient to most students.
Following the residential week, core and concentration courses in the fall, again
offered in a combination of two courses taken in-class and one course taken online.
Upon completion of all 41 credit hours of course work in the 17-month program, the
Executive MBA student graduates in December with a Master’s of Business Administration
