About the Expert: During his career, Michael has written for every medium including print, video & film, radio, television, theatre and the Internet. A professional songwriter as well, Michael got his start as a jingle writer for the William B. Tanner Company. His songs have been recorded by Shelby Lynn, Jimmy Griffin, Jim Brickman and Clay Crosse. He is the co-writer of the Memphis holiday classic "Christmas in Memphis." As a writer, producer and director, he has worked on advertising and marketing campaigns for such clients as Federal Express, MCI, Holiday Inn, Marriott International, Bissell Vacuum and ServiceMaster. He received an M.A. in Communication Arts from Memphis State University in 1981 and now acts as Adjunct Professor in the University of Memphis Department of Communication. For three years he served as Vice-President of the Memphis Songwriters Association and is one of the Memphis Coordinators for the Songwriters Guild of America. He has taught his "ABC's of Absolutely Brilliantly Conceived Lyrics" workshop for both MSA and SGA. In 2001 he won American Songwriter Magazine's Song of the Year Award. He is currently the writer, editor and publisher of "Crunch Creativity in the Classroom," a free monthly E-newsletter devoted to showcasing cognitive thinking skills in higher education.
