Areas of Expertise:
Consumerism and marketing history
New Orleans, La.
About the Expert:
A former editor at the Journal of Southern History and a native of New Orleans, I received my PhD from Rice University in 2007 and was hired by the University of Memphis that same year. My dissertation focused on 19th and 20th century New Orleans and its merchant community; the revised book version will be published next year by Cambridge University Press. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the Journal of Urban History published my essay "Apres Le Deluge: New Orleans and the New Environmental History" (2006). I have also published articles on the history of marketing and consumerism - country stores, mail-order houses, and shopping malls, among others.
