About the Expert:
James Williamson is associate professor of architecture at the University of Memphis, where he teaches design, theory, and professional practice at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. He is a graduate of Rhodes College and the University of Pennsylvania, where he received two Master of Architecture degrees and was a student of Louis I. Kahn. As an Associate at Venturi, Scott Brown & Associates in Philadelphia, he collaborated on a plan for Downtown Memphis, an art museum in La Jolla, CA, and a medical research laboratory at UCLA. As design principal in his own firm in Memphis, Williamson Pounders Architects, Prof. Williamson received over 30 architectural design awards at the local, regional, and national levels. His work has been published internationally. Projects of note include Ballet Memphis (voted one of Memphisí Best Buildings by AIA Memphis), St. Thomas More Church in Paducah, KY, Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester, NY, and St. Johnís Episcopal Church in Johnson City, TN. In 2005 he was elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects in recognition of his notable contributions in architectural design and education. He is the author of "The Architect", a novel, and is currently working with the University of Pennsylvania on a book about Louis Kahnís influence as a teacher.
