ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/PROFESSOR AND CHAIR
DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT

Description
The Fogelman College of Business & Economics is conducting a search for the position of Chair, Department of Management, effective fall semester 2018. The position will be filled at either the Associate Professor or Professor rank.

Responsibilities
The Department is an academically diverse, research-oriented group of 19 full-time faculty members. The Chair provides academic and administrative leadership for all operations of the Department. Duties and responsibilities include faculty recruitment, development, and evaluation; curriculum development; program promotion; course scheduling; planning and budgeting; staff supervision; administration of the department; development of external relationships; and service on the Chairs, Associate Deans, and Deans (CADD) executive council. The teaching load is one three-credit course at the graduate or undergraduate level per semester.

Qualifications
Desired qualifications include:

  • An earned doctorate with emphasis in management or a related area
  • A strong record of scholarship and publication in management
  • A record of professional experience and accomplishment appropriate to a tenured appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank
  • Ability to work with a diverse department faculty to advance academic programs
  • Administrative ability and experience
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform outreach activities in the corporate community

Compensation

JAMES T. THOMPSON CHAIR FOR EXCELLENCE PROFESSOR IN ACCOUNTING EDUCATION

Description
The School of Accountancy invites applications for the James T. Thompson Chair for Excellence Professor in Accounting Education, effective fall 2018, pending available funding. All specializations in accounting will be considered. Responsibilities include effectively teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, conducting doctoral seminars, mentoring doctoral students, maintaining a strong research program, and fulfilling professional and University service duties. Qualifications
Applicants should have an earned doctorate in accounting from an AACSB-accredited institution and education in or experience with U.S. GAAP, tax law, or auditing standards. Professional certification is highly desired (CPA preferred). Candidates must have an outstanding research record as demonstrated by publications in high-quality accounting journals, an interest in teaching doctoral seminars, the capability to mentor doctoral students and other faculty, and professional experience appropriate to this senior appointment.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF FINANCE

Position
The Department of Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate in the Fogelman College of Business & Economics invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, effective fall semester 2018, pending available funding.
 
Description
Responsibilities include effectively teaching undergraduate and graduate finance courses, developing a stream of quality research, participating in Department activities, and fulfilling professional and University service responsibilities. Duties may also include mentoring student competitions, maintaining CFA and CFP program recognitions, participating in FISC Center activities, and overseeing the Cook Analytics and Trading Lab. The Department is an academically diverse, professionally active group of 13 full-time faculty members. It offers the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in finance and supports other academic programs of the Fogelman College.
 
Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D. with a concentration in finance or a closely related area from an AACSB-accredited school (advanced ABDs considered if degree completion is imminent). CFA/CFP credentials are desirable. Effective college teaching experience and evidence of strong and continued research potential are required, with a commitment to targeting top journals in the field. Applicants with expertise in market microstructure, international finance, investments, and corporate finance are desired for this position.

INSTRUCTOR OF MANAGEMENT

Position
The Department of Management is seeking qualified applicants for an Instructor position for the 2018-2019 academic year, beginning August 20, 2018. This is a nine-month, non-tenure-track appointment. Hiring is contingent on final budget approval. The instructor will teach primarily at the main University of Memphis campus although teaching at off-campus sites may be required.
 
Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include effectively teaching a variety of undergraduate management courses; evaluating student learning; participating in related department activities; advising students; and complying with all Department, College, and University regulations. Instructors normally teach four, 3-credit courses per semester. For this position, the instructor will be responsible for teaching on-ground and/or on-line sections of undergraduate courses in management such as Organizational Behavior, Organization and Management, International Management, and Managerial Leadership.
 
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in management or closely–related discipline from an AACSB-accredited school of business is strongly desired (ABDs will be considered). The minimum educational requirement is an appropriate master's degree. College teaching experience is required, and on-line teaching experience is desired. Relevant academic training and/or significant related experience sufficient to qualify under existing AACSB business accreditation guidelines are required.
