Examining Team Building in Online Networks
Motivated by the growing number of self-organizing, voluntary teams collaborating
online to produce products and services, researchers are investigating how these teams
are formed and how individuals make decisions about which teams to join in the context
of open source software development.
The research contributes to a richer understanding of how self-organizing teams are
formed in an online collaborative network. The findings also offer some guidelines
to open source project managers that can help them attract new developers into their
projects and gain early momentum.
