ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
School of Accountancy

Description
The School of Accountancy is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor, preferably at the advanced level, effective fall semester 2012.  Responsibilities include effectively teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting, developing a stream of quality research, participating in activities of the School, and fulfilling professional and university service responsibilities.  Teaching experience in financial accounting is preferred although all specializations will be considered.  The School’s faculty includes 16 full-time faculty members and offers the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in accounting and supports other academic programs of the Fogelman College.

Qualifications
Candidates must have a doctorate in accounting (advanced ABDs will be considered if degree completion is imminent), and experience with MBA and/or EMBA courses is a plus.  A record of effective college teaching and scholarly publications is desired, although those with strong potential in these areas will be considered.  We particularly welcome applications from those able to teach financial accounting and interested in economics-based archival research.

Compensation

Description
The Department of Economics invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position, effective fall semester 2012.  The Department seeks candidates with a PhD in economics (advanced ABDs may be considered if degree completion is imminent).  We will consider applicants specializing in any field in microeconomics.  However, the person selected must be able to teach advanced courses in microeconomic theory, as well as graduate electives such as game theory to students in our MA and PhD programs.  We are looking for a strong researcher who is also an excellent teacher and is able to teach undergraduate, MBA, and online classes. Description

Department
The Department of Finance, Insurance and Real Estate has 12 full-time faculty positions and  offers bachelor’s degrees in finance, banking and  financial services, real estate, and insurance and risk management; master’s degrees in finance and real estate; and a Ph.D. in finance.  The Department also supports all MBA programs offered by the Fogelman College.  The Carnegie Foundation classifies the University of Memphis as a Research University (high research activity).  Hiring is contingent on final budget approval.  Additional information about the University, College, and Department is provided through the University’s official website:  http://www.memphis.edu/

MARTHA AND ROBERT FOGELMAN FAMILY
CHAIR OF EXCELLENCE IN REAL ESTATE SUSTAINABILITY
Department of Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate

Description
The Martha and Robert Fogelman Family Chair of Excellence in Real Estate Sustainability is a new endowed chair position to be filled for 2012-2013.  The Chairholder is expected to provide leadership for the undergraduate and graduate programs in real estate, provide direction for the Center for Real Estate Research, and interact extensively with professionals in the real estate field in Memphis, the Mid-South, and nationally.  The Chairholder should work effectively with graduate students in research related to sustainability and seek external funding to support the activities of the Center.  A part of the Chairholder’s instructional responsibilities include teaching an undergraduate/ graduate course in real estate sustainability.  Other courses to be taught may be in the area of finance.  Also, the Chairholder may be expected to lead planning activities for an annual national conference on real estate sustainability.

DIRECTOR
Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management 

Description
The Fogelman College of Business & Economics is conducting a search for the Director of the Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management (KWS), effective July 1, 2012.  The Director provides academic and administrative leadership for all operations of KWS and is responsible for developing goals and implementing plans to achieve objectives of the School to reach its full global potential. 

Key responsibilities are: strategic leadership of KWS, recruiting and developing students and faculty, expanding industry relationships, and exploring new venues for reaching the educational needs of the hospitality industry.  The Director reports to the Dean of the Fogelman College and works closely with the facilities management team to deliver the best in hospitality education.  The Director represents KWS by working with hospitality industry associations in the Memphis area, state associations in Tennessee, and national associations to support the growth of the School in meeting industry needs. 

The Director position is a 12-month appointment and offers a highly competitive salary, administrative and secretarial support, funds for professional expenses, and an attractive benefit package.

School
Dedicated in 2002, KWS offers a specialized professional program in the Fogelman College, an AACSB-accredited business college offering undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs.  The KWS faculty, offices, and hospitality student classrooms are part of a 138,000 square-foot, 82 all-suite hotel and educational facility, donated by Mr. Kemmons Wilson, Sr., hospitality entrepreneur and founder of Holiday Inns.  KWS maintains a cooperative relationship with the full-service Holiday Inn at the University which includes a full-service restaurant, wine cellar, and a 1000-seat ballroom.  The hotel has received awards for excellence and outstanding performance every year since opening.  The KWS offers an exceptional learning environment with dedicated classrooms, breakout rooms, and a computer lab, and its proximity to the Fogelman Executive Conference Center and the FedEx Institute of Technology fosters a unique setting for hospitality education.   

The undergraduate degree program offers a balance of hands-on experience through 1000 hours of internship experience and academic courses stressing global awareness, diversity, and sustainability.  KWS graduates now earn a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Hospitality and Resort Management, but KWS is in the process of becoming an independent, industry-specific school with its own admission standards and degree requirements.  KWS currently enrolls approximately 135 student majors and its strategic plan envisions significant growth with its industry-specific degree program.  The School has five full-time faculty members and houses the Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) Chair of Excellence.  Associations with faculty of the six other academic departments in the Fogelman College provide collaboration opportunities for research and publication.

  • Effective leadership skills and a proven administrative track record
  • A record of scholarship and publication and professional accomplishment appropriate to appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor
  • An earned doctorate with specialization in hospitality management or a related discipline is strongly desired
  • Significant experience in the hospitality industry, interacting with hospitality professionals and executives of hospitality organizations
  • Interpersonal and communication skills that support effective collaboration with colleagues to advance the program
  • Experience in budgeting, curriculum development, establishing internships, and  fund raising
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and self motivation, with international experience a plus

Position Description
The Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor, effective fall semester 2012.  Applications from advanced assistants as well as new PhDs are welcome.  Teaching responsibilities include effective instruction of undergraduate and graduate courses in MIS.  Candidates are expected to develop and maintain a stream of quality research targeted for leading journals, with teaching loads and service obligations in accordance with the research mission of the Department of MIS, the Fogelman College, and the University of Memphis.  The Department includes 16 full-time faculty members and offers the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.  The undergraduate program utilizes the AIS Model Curriculum as a foundation.

Candidates must have a doctorate in MIS or a related discipline (advanced ABDs will be considered if degree completion is imminent).  Applicants from behavioral perspectives as well as technical and qualitative backgrounds are encouraged to apply.  A record of effective college teaching and academic research is desired, although those with evidence of strong potential in these areas will be considered.
