FCBE Team Competes at Case Competition
For release: November 19, 2010
A team representing the Fogelman College of Business & Economics competed in a case
competition against teams from other Consortium for Undergraduate International Business
Education (CUIBE) member universities over November 4-6 at Northeastern University
in Boston, MA. The team consisted of Elizabeth Yen, Whitney Mowday, Daniel Goodwin, and Stephanie
Myles. This was the first time that a team from the FCBE had competed in this competition.
On November 4, the team had presentations from senior executives at IBM and several
other firms discussing trends in international management. They were then provided
with a case detailing a potential mining merger/acquisition between Chinese and Australian
companies. Powerpoint presentations were due at 8:00 am on the morning of November
5, so the team had to work long into the night to complete the assignment. At 9:15am they had to present their recommendations to a team of professional judges.
The winning team this year was University of Southern California, but the Memphis
team competed very well against much more experienced teams representing some of the
leading business schools in the country. Faculty advisor for the team was Dr. Frances
Fabian from the Department of Management.
