Department of Management Information Systems Joint Education Program with Hubei University,
China
Students will have an opportunity to obtain a dual degree from the University of Memphis
as well as Hubei University under a cooperative agreement between the University of
Memphis and Hubei University. The academic programs of participants will be enhanced
through the study of courses and/or exposure to perspectives not available on their
home campus.
The joint education program between the two universities will be focused in the areas
of Management Information Systems (MIS), Communication and Asian Studies, and International Trade (ASIT). Undergraduate
students at Hubei University will enroll in a 2+2 Bachelor degree program which will
require them to complete two years at Hubei University and two years at the University
of Memphis. Dr. Lloyd Brooks, MIS Department Chair, indicates that this program provides
the department with an entry into China--a country where IT applications are expanding
rapidly. Rajiv Grover, Dean of the Fogelman College of Business & Economics, welcomed
the agreement, stating that, "It is important to provide students with experiences
that will raise their understanding of the impacts, and implications, of globalization,
and in so doing broaden their horizons as to what opportunities exist in a global
society."
Students admitted to the University of Memphis will have completed all general education
courses as required by the University of Memphis for a degree to be awarded. Students
who complete the course work and meet the academic requirements of the University
of Memphis will be awarded a Bachelor’s degree by the University of Memphis. The University
of Memphis will provide suggestions and recommendations on courses offered by Hubei
University as part of the Joint Education Program. Dr. Chen Zhang, Assistant Professor
of Management Information Systems, will serve as advisor for Hubei University students
who earn a BBA/MIS degree.
