Bhagat Wins Eastern Academy of Management Best Paper Award
For release: June 16, 2011
Rabi Bhagat, Professor of Management, and former Department of Management doctoral
student Tej Billing, now an Assistant Professor at Rowan University, have won a Best
Paper Award at the Eastern Academy of Management. The paper, "A Cross National Study
on Work Overload, Work Family Conflict and Strain: The Moderating Role of Planning
and Scheduling", involved the development of a theoretical framework using cultural
dimensions of vertical-horizontal individualism and collectivism conceptualized at
individual level to predict work-family conflict. The theoretical model also conceptualized
a positive relationship between work-family conflict and turnover intentions. This
model was empirically tested in four dissimilar national contexts. The findings of
the multinational study emphasize the importance of understanding the role of cultural
values as antecedents of work-family conflict.
