Pierce Paper Finalist for Prestigious Award
For release: March 15, 2011
Chuck Pierce, Professor in the Department of Management, has had a paper selected
as a finalist for the HR Division Scholarly Achievement Award for 2011. The article,
entitled "Revival of test bias research in preemployment testing", appeared in Journal of Applied Psychology, an A+ rated journal in the Department of Management. The paper was one of five finalist
papers that were considered for the most significant article in human resource management
published in recognized journals and research annuals that are generally available
to the Academy of Management's Human Resource Division members in 2010. A 10-member
committee solicited nominations from Division members, and then reviewed each of the
major journals publishing HR-related research to nominate additional articles for
consideration. Each of these nominees was reviewed by the entire committee, and the
top five finalists were then decided. Pierce’s article was selected as a finalist
based on the significance and importance of the problem to human resources, the extent
to which the design, findings, and orientation advances research/theory, and the likelihood
that the paper will be widely cited in future published work. The paper will be noted
for its distinction in upcoming Academy of Management publications and the annual
meeting.
