Stafford Elected to Lead American Academy of Advertising
For release: May 9, 2012
Dr. Marla Stafford, First Tennessee Professor of Marketing and Chair of the Department
of Marketing & Supply Chain Management, has been chosen to serve as President-Elect
for the American Academy of Advertising (AAA) for the 2013 calendar year. Stafford,
who was elected in April, assumes the position in January 2013. In January 2014, she
moves into the role of president for the national organization.
Stafford, who has been involved with the AAA since she was a doctoral student, has
served on and chaired a number of committees, including a stint on the executive committee
as national secretary. In December 2010, she concluded her term as editor of the group's
scholarly journal, the Journal of Advertising, the premier journal of the advertising discipline. "To lead the organization in
the advertising and marketing discipline will bring continued visibility to the Fogelman
College of Business & Economics that the journal brought previously," she said.
The American Academy of Advertising is the leading organization for advertising scholars
and professionals with an interest in advertising and advertising education.
In addition to her new role with AAA, Stafford also recently received a Teaching Excellence
Award from the Marketing Management Association (MMA). The prize, which included a
plaque and a cash award, was presented at the MMA's spring conference in Chicago.
