FCBE Senior Applies Concepts Learned in Class to International Internship

For release:  September 20, 2013

Fogelman College student, Decorian Williams, gained valuable market insight through a unique summer 2013 internship opportunity with Shanghai Real Estate in Shanghai, China. Williams, a Finance major concentrating in Real Estate, was primarily responsible for gathering information that would enable Shanghai Real Estate to create a financial and market analysis of the company’s current investment market. During the course of his internship, Williams learned how to effectively apply business concepts and theories learned in the academic setting to real-world decision-making in an international setting. He also credits the internship with helping him develop and improve his skills in communication, technology, quantitative reasoning and teamwork.

“I believe my experience in China has definitely given me a better understanding of my skill set and where my career may take me,” he stated, “But most importantly, I believe this experience has equipped me with the tools I need to build my professional identity.” Williams is confident the market insight he gained from participating in the internship will be very beneficial to his future career.

“I am very proud of Decorian,” said Christine X Jiang, Chair of the Finance Department at FCBE, “His internship experience demonstrates that our students can successfully apply what they learn here in a global setting.”
