For release: February 20, 2013
David Kemme, FCBE economics professor and Chair of Excellence, was selected as a recipient
of a fellowship for the 2012-2013 Short-Term Travel Grant (STG) Program. The STG Program
is a part of the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX). IREX is an international
nonprofit organization that employs field-tested methods and innovative use of technologies
to develop practical and locally-driven solutions with partners in more than 100 countries.
Their mission is to provide thought leadership and innovative programs to provide
lasting change globally.
The STG Program supports postdoctoral scholars and professionals to conduct independent
or collaborative research in Eastern Europe and Eurasia. STG is designed to allow
scholars to conduct short, targeted projects. Kemme will perform research on the sovereign
wealth fund, Samruk-Kazyna, in Kazakhstan in April. Kemme will have the opportunity
to interview executives and analyze the performance of individual companies held by
the sovereign wealth fund. His intent is to look at the links between corporate governance,
transparency and firm performance.
