17th Annual Fogelman College Alumni Luncheon Held at Holiday Inn on October 28th
The 17th annual Fogelman College Alumni Luncheon was held at the U of M Holiday Inn on October 28th. Over 500 Fogelman College Alumni and guests were in attendance. The keynote speaker was B. Lane Carrick, chairman and CEO of Sovereign Wealth Management and Chairman, Triumph Bank.
Four awards were presented: Ben Watkins, Member, Watkins Uiberall, PLLC, was named Outstanding Alumnus of the Year. Chris Chu, Co-Founder/Strategic Sales, EVS Corp., was recognized as Outstanding Young Alumna. Gary Wunderlich, CEO of Wunderlich Securities was named Entrepreneur of the Year. Joseph DeVivo, President, Orthopaedics, Smith & Nephew, Inc., was declared a Distinguished Friend of the College.

Fogelman College Graduate Don Hutson is U of M Spring Commencement Speaker
Don Hutson, a Fogelman College graduate, was the featured speaker at the U of M commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 9, at the FedExForum.

Mr. Hutson successfully worked his way through the University of Memphis, graduating in 1967 with a degree in marketing. After becoming the top salesperson in a national training organization, he established his own training firm and soon was in demand as a professional speaker. Today Mr. Hutson’s client list is primarily Fortune 1000 companies, and he has been featured in more than100 training films. He is chairman and CEO of U.S. Learning and makes some 75 speaking appearances a year. Additionally, he is chairman of the board of Executive Books and is on the advisory board of Success magazine. Mr. Hutson is regularly featured on the television networks PBS and TSTN.
Mr. Hutson is a member of the University of Memphis Board of Visitors and the U of M Foundation Board of Trustees. He is the author of nine books, including The Sale and his latest, The One Minute Entrepreneur, a New York Times No.1 best seller that he co-authored with Dr. Ken Blanchard, noted management expert and author of The One-Minute Manager.
Mr. Hutson is a member of the prestigious Speakers Roundtable. He was elected by his peers to the presidency of the National Speakers Association and has received its coveted Cavett Award as member of the year. He has also been inducted into the NSA’s Speakers Hall of Fame.

Fogelman College Alumnus Ronald Hart Named a Top Financial Advisor
Fogelman College alumnus Ronald Hart, who is a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, based in Atlanta, has been named one of the nation's top financial advisors by two publications. In September 2008, Registered Rep magazine and its web site, registeredrep.com, named Ron the Number 4 financial advisor in the country, based on assets under management. Fogelman College EMBA Grad Lori O'Brien Named Chief Development Officer of ALSAC/St. Jude
Fogelman College Executive MBA graduate Lori O’Brien has been promoted to the newly created position of Chief Development Officer (CDO) of ALSAC, the fundraising arm of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. The announcement from ALSAC reads as follows:
The Chief Development Officer position has been created to oversee the fundraising efforts for ALSAC, including implementing strategy, measuring fundraising effectiveness, driving coordination of fundraising efforts and managing efficiencies to reduce overhead.
Lori brings a wealth of both educational and work experience to her new position. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Relations from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and most recently her Executive Masters in Business Administration from the University of Memphis.
Our new CDO has over nineteen years experience in direct response, corporate alliance and nonprofit marketing experience. In the early 1990's, Lori served as ALSAC Deputy Director of National Direct Marketing. She then moved to FedEx Marketing as Alliance Program Manager, and to Washington, DC as a charitable and political fundraising consultant before returning to ALSAC in the capacity of Senior Director of Mail Acquisition and Donor Retention, becoming Sr. Vice President of ALSAC National Direct Marketing in 2005.
According to Lori, "We absolutely have the best fundraising staff in the country. This is demonstrated by the number of other organizations that want to benchmark with ALSAC. My vision is to coordinate the efforts of our fundraising groups and properly resource them so we can expand our successful core programs and bring new high-potential programs to market. Working together, we will have a unified game plan for success, which ultimately means more money for the children of St. Jude."
