The FCBE Open House offered hundreds of current and prospective Fogelman students the opportunity to meet representatives from FCBE academic departments, master and doctoral programs, honors program, internship and scholarship programs, and student organizations. Popular FCBE initiatives covered under the Fogelman Promise and the MILE leadership programs were represented; the U of M Alumni Association and Future Alumni of Memphis staff also shared insights with future UM alums.
The Open House covered two days, September 21 and 22, which enabled day and evening students the chance to mingle and explore. The idea for an expansive Open House and information faire came from Mary Johnson, Academic Advisor for the FCBE, who envisioned an event that would engage students in exploration of opportunities for educational and personal advancement.
Several events were combined with the Open House. First, the Fogelman Promise Banners, depicting the signatures of hundreds of students, staff and faculty who have pledged to act in ethical and professional ways, were unveiled in the atrium. Second, Provost Ralph Faudree opened the new Honors Commons Room on the second floor of the Fogelman classroom building. Finally, two new Fogelman Promise initiatives were launched – Fogelman Fit and Professionalism First! You can read more about Fogelman Fit and Professionalism First! elsewhere in the Flash.
In addition to numerous students, staff and faculty, the event featured alumni, college friends from local industry partners, and an appearance by former Dean John Peppin. The Open House was sponsored by SunTrust Bank who generously supplied refreshments.
