The Fogelman College of Business & Economics has numerous scholarship opportunities available to our undergraduate students.

The following information pertains to private scholarships awarded only to students majoring in business. Students interested in applying for university-wide scholarships should contact the Scholarship Office at http://www.memphis.edu/financialaid/ or in person at 107 Wilder Tower.

Current & prospective students should return the completed application to the Fogelman College of Business and Economics's Undergraduate Student Services by March 1, 2013.

Internal Scholarships (Apply through FCBE) – Deadline: March 1

C. Thomas and Katherine H. Whitman Scholarship

  • Entering freshmen must be a graduate of Immaculate Conception, Bishop Byrne, or Memphis Catholic High School
  • a minimum of 27 on the ACT and shall apply and qualify for the Tennessee Lottery HOPE Scholarship
  • must maintain a 3.0 GPA and take a course load which enables student to graduate in four years

Dr. W. Harry Feinstone Business Scholars Endowment Fund

  • Entering freshman must have a minimum ACT score of 27 or equivalent SAT
  • Sophomores, juniors, and seniors must maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Must be a full time declared business major; financial need may be considered.

Frank Flautt Endowment Fund

  • Freshman must have a minimum ACT score of 27 and plan to make the hospitality resort industry their career
  • Current undergraduate students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher and must have worked in the hospitality resort industry for at least one year.

Fogelman College of Business (FCBE) High Ability Student Scholarship

  • Must be a full time declared business major
  • Freshman must have a minimum ACT score of 27 or equivalent SAT
  • Sophomores, juniors, and seniors must have a 3.3 cumulative GPA or higher
  • All recipients must maintain a 3.3 cumulative GPA every semester
  • Financial need may be considered.

G. Douglas Edwards Family Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a full time declared business major
  • Freshmen enrollees shall have a minimum ACT score of 27
  • Sophomores, juniors, and seniors must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

The John C. Kelley Legacy Scholarship

  • Declared undergraduate business major
  • Must have a minimum ACT score of 23
  • Must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Must be a resident of the mid-south and a proven leader of their community
  • Must complete at least 15 hours of community service each semester.

Kemmons Wilson Scholars Fund

  • Full-time freshman majoring in hospitality and resort management
  • Should have maintained a 3.0+ High School GPA
  • Must maintain a 2.75 cumulative GPA or higher
  • 2 letters of recommendation from school, work, organization, etc… will be required before final decision is made
  • Internship participation is also required
  • This is a renewable 4 year scholarship.

Kimmelman Scholars Program Fund

  • If freshman, must have a 25 or higher ACT score
  • Must be a full-time declared accounting major
  • Must be a junior or below with a 3.2 cumulative GPA or higher
  • 2 letters of recommendation demonstrating scholarship and service from an appropriate source
  • Must participate in Beta Alpha Psi, an internship, and/or the Kimmelman Scholars Program
  • This scholarship is not to exceed 4 years of study

The Legacy Scholarship in Honor of Dr. Willard Sparks

  • Entering freshman enrolled at UofM and pursuing a degree in either technology, agribusiness, or general business
  • A minimum of a 23 on the ACT
  • must live in the Mid-South region and be proven leaders in their community
  • must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must participate in 15 hours of community service each semester
  • A student may receive this scholarship for four years if criteria are met.

Mathis Family Insurance Scholarship

  • Declared major in Finance with a concentration in Risk Management and Insurance
  • Must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher from High School or maintained in college
  • Preference to those employed part-time

Morgan Morton Family Scholarship

  • Current resident of the Town of Collierville, TN and is a graduate of one of its public high schools
  • Has attained a 3.0 or higher high school GPA
  • Has demonstrated interest in Business and is a full time declared business major
  • Has demonstrated leadership in his or her high school or is eligible for participation in the University of Memphis Emerging Leaders Programs
  • Preference to student who demonstrates financial need.

Papasan Family Endowed Scholarship

  • Declared undergraduate or graduate business student
  • Shall demonstrate a financial need as well as outstanding academic promise
  • Freshman must have scored a 25 or higher on the ACT
  • Sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students shall have maintained a 3.0 GPA
  • Preference will be given to a student whose parent, guardian, or grandparent is, or has been, an employee of Memphis Light Gas and Water.

Roy W. & Sue T. Black Scholarship

  • African-American or Hispanic students majoring in business
  • Must be a graduate of a high school in Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Lauderdale or McNairy county
  • Preference will be given to freshman and Hardeman County graduate
  • Must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Recipient may retain this award until the undergraduate degree is obtained or for a maximum of 5 consecutive years, whichever comes first, if all requirements are met.

Shelton & Brucene Harrison Scholarship

  • Incoming freshman must have been in the upper third of their high school class
  • Current student s must attain and maintain overall GPA of 3.0
  • Declared marketing or management major
  • Preference given to students in need of financial assistance.

S.L. Kopald Scholarship

  • Must be a graduate of a Memphis/Shelby County high school
  • Declared Marketing major
  • Must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Freshman must have a minimum ACT score of 26.

SunTrust Scholarship Fund for Entering Freshman

  • Declared Undergraduate business major
  • Must be a full-time student
  • Must live in Shelby County or reside within 30 miles of Shelby County
  • Must have a 3.5 High School GPA or higher
  • Must have a minimum ACT score of 25
  • Must maintain a 3.5 cumulative collegiate GPA
  • This scholarship is renewable for 8 semesters.

Trammell Crow Company Scholarship

  • A concentration in Real Estate Development is preferred
  • Full or part-time student, incoming or current undergraduate or graduate
  • Minimum of 2.5 GPA
  • Preference given to students who demonstrate a financial need


External Scholarships (Apply through the scholarship sponsor)- Deadline: varies

AH&LEF Incoming Freshman Scholarship

  • Enrolled in at least 12 credit hours for the upcoming fall and spring semesters with a major in hospitality and resort management.
  • Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident.
  • Preference will be given to high school graduates of the Lodging Management Program (LMP).

Lodging Management Scholarships are Self Nominated, which means students do not have to attend a particular school or be nominated by their respective schools. Applicants must complete all sections of the AH&LEF Scholarship Application. AH&LEF academic scholarship applications are only accepted from January 1 to May 1 each year.

Ethel Lewis Scholarship

  • Must be a full time junior or senior student with a declared major in business
  • Must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or greater
  • Must be a resident of Shelby County.
  • Preference given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Ernest W. Pegram Business Scholarship

  • Must be a full time student with a declared major in business
  • Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Sophomore or higher classification
  • Preference given to prior year’s recipients who met criteria.

Fogelman College of Business (FCBE) High Ability Student Scholarship

  • Must be a full time student with a declared major in business
  • Freshman must have a minimum ACT score of 27 or equivalent SAT
  • Upperclassmen must have a 3.3 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Must maintain a 3.3 cumulative GPA every semester
  • Financial need may be considered.

FCBE Alumni Chapter Undergraduate Scholarship Fund

  • Must be a full time student with a declared major in business
  • Successfully completed a minimum of 55 hours
  • Must have maintained a 2.75 cumulative GPA or higher by their junior year.

G. Douglas Edwards Family Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a full time student with a declared major in business
  • Freshmen enrollees shall have a minimum ACT score of 27
  • Sophomores, juniors, and seniors must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Goldsmith’s-Macy’s Internship Scholarship

  • Declared full time sophomore or junior business major
  • Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Must maintain minimum 15 credit hours
  • Must remain enrolled for eight consecutive semesters
  • Must have a ACT score of 28 and a 3.0 high school GPA
  • Preference given to applicants from Shelby County, West Tennessee, and other areas served by Goldsmith-Macy’s
  • Student shall serve as a summer intern at one of the Memphis locations of Goldsmith’s-Macy’s.

Herman Bensdorf II Memorial Scholarship

  • Junior with a declared major in business
  • Must be a graduate of a high school in Shelby County and a current resident of Shelby County.

James E. Harwood Endowed Scholarship Fund

  • Must be a full time student with a declared major in business
  • Junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must demonstrate a financial need
  • Junior recipient can receive the scholarship in their senior year if all requirements have been met.

John Burton Tigrett Innovator & Entrepreneur Scholarship

  • Full-time undergraduate majoring in business
  • Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher
  • must demonstrate financial need
  • Proven involvement and commitment to volunteer service
  • Must have demonstrated creativity, entrepreneurial aspirations and passion for innovation
  • Preference shall be given to students pursuing a degree in an academic program associated with the FedEx Institute of Technology, including but not limited to supply chain management, logistics and management information systems.

The John C. Kelley Legacy Scholarship

  • Declared undergraduate business major
  • Must have a minimum ACT score of 23
  • Must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Must be a resident of the mid-south and a proven leader of their community
  • Must complete at least 15 hours of community service each semester.

Kramer Endowment Fund Scholarship

  • Must be a full time student with a declared major in business
  • U.S. citizen
  • Tennessee resident
  • Must be of “non-traditional age” (age 26 by August 1st)
  • Demonstrates financial need
  • Demonstrates college potential and 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher
  • May receive this award for a maximum of four years.

Lamar Bell Scholarship

  • attained a 2.5 high school GPA
  • Declared a business major
  • Preference for student who demonstrate Financial Need
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA

  • Declared Undergraduate business major

  • Must be a full-time student

  • Must live in Shelby County or reside within 30 miles of Shelby County

Thomas R. Price/Regions Bank Memorial Scholarship

  • Full-time junior or senior majoring in business

  • Preference can be given to candidates who demonstrate financial need.

Verna T. Sharpes Scholarship

  • Must be a full time female student
  • Declared major in business
  • Must demonstrate a financial need

Tennessee Labor Management Conference Scholarship

  • Applicants must be legal residents of the State of Tennessee and attending a Tennessee college or university
  • Must pursue a career in human resource management, labor relations and/or business related field

HOSPITALITY AND RESORT MANAGEMENTTop of Page

Wilson Family Scholars Fund (Up to $24,000 over four years for up to six students):  Funded in honor of the late Kemmons Wilson Sr., founder of Holiday Inns, this scholarship is available to entering freshman majoring in hospitality business management. 

  • Candidates will have outstanding academic record in high school with a 3.0 GPA or higher, high SAT and ACT scores. 

  •  Two letters of recommendation, a demonstrated community service record and interview is required for consideration.

  • Internships and service learning is required of Wilson Scholars while enrolled at the University of Memphis. 

  • Travel funds are included for each scholar in the junior and senior year for attendance at national industry conferences.

  • Scholarship is renewable for four years if GPA, service hours and internship requirements are met.

InterContinental Hotels Group: (Up to $3,000 annually)

  • The leading corporate partner to the Wilson School provides at least six scholarships

  • for students enrolled in the Sophomore, Junior or Senior levels

  • Preference given to women and minorities.

  • GPA, leadership and service required.

  • Annual application required

 Frank Flautt, Jr. Scholarship: (Up to $2,000) 

  • Multiple awards are available to students of the Kemmons Wilson School

  • 2.3 GPA or higher

  • hospitality work experience and career aspirations in the lodging industry required

John Q. Hammons Hotel Scholarships: (Up to $6,000 for tuition differential for out of state students)

  • Awarded to out-of-state of Tennessee residents

  • HPRM majors at the Wilson School

  • High school record, GPA, and test scores determine eligibility for freshmen, GPA for upper level students

American Hotel & Lodging Association Education Foundation Scholarship Program: (Up to $2,000)

  • Full-time Kemmons Wilson School students

  • minimum 3.0 GPA

  • qualify as a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident

  • completed 1-2 years of school

Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI): ($1,000)

  • Students of the Kemmons Wilson School are eligible for scholarships to support travel to attend an HSMAI sponsored conference. 

 

  • Students must have hospitality work experience and good academic standing

 Metropolitan Memphis Hotel Lodging Association (MMH&A) Scholarship: (Up to $2,500 annually)

  • Eligible students will have a minimum GPA of 2.5

  • 250 hours of lodging work experience

  • 12 hours in the HPRM major completed

 SKAL International ($500)

  • Full and part-time HPRM students eligible

Memphis Restaurant Association: ($1,500)

  • Preference will be given to students enrolled at junior and senior level

  • enrolled in the HPRM major

  • demonstrate interest in a food and beverage career

  • Students must be residents of Shelby County, Tennessee

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA

  • full-time student

 Perkins Restaurants & Bakery: (Up to $1,500 annually)

  • Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial hardship

  • Preference for residents of Shelby County, Tennessee

  • either a full or part-time

  • must be sophomore or above

 International Gold and Silver Plate Society ($1,000)

  • Full-time Wilson School students who are interested in Food Services

North Mississippi Hotel and Lodging Association: ($1,500)

  • Full-time Kemmons Wilson School student with hospitality work experience

  • demonstrated financial need and personal goals
