Internationally renowned artist James Clar, the first FedEx Institute of Technology
Lantana Artist in Residence, will be exhibiting his work March 17-April 1 at Material,
the “tiny art space” at 2553 Broad Ave.
The gallery will be open to the public March 17 from 6-8 p.m. After that, the show

Clar’s work focuses on the study of light and its properties to design information
systems with ground level control. He has received recognition from numerous publications,
including the Design Distinction Award from I.D. Magazine 2004 for his thesis project
at New York University. Clar has done work at Benetton’s Fabrica design facility in
Italy, and he was an artist-in-residence at Eyebeam Atelier in New York. He has exhibited
at numerous galleries, including New Museum of Contemporary Arts, Chelsea Art Museum,
Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art, Milan Trienniale, and most recently at the Museum
of Modern Art in New York.
