Happy (Early) Valentine's Day!

This past week I was talking to my friend Stacy after greek mythology class, and she told me that she was "devoted" to reading the Freshman Diary website. Of course, that was nice to know because it takes time. Truthfully, with everything I've got going on, I don't feel like I have the time to write the next entry sometimes (as evident of missing entries). Stacy helped remind me of my responisbility and it made me think of my friends and family back home who read this. I guess it's like all things in life. We just sometimes take them for granted. I know that I would have loved to have had something like this when I was making my college choice, or I would even look forward to reading a website about my friend or family away at college to get a week-to-week update on their lives. So, even with everything going on, I will try to the best of my ability to maintain my entries.

It doesn't seem like it should almost be time for midterms. Only two weeks until midterms, with plenty of time to study or procrastinate. I need to really work on the study part (unfortunately I have the procrastination down pat). Right now all of my papers, tests, and projects are due it seems. I get done with one thing and then have to start on another. Yet, somehow I seem to manage. I don't feel as stressed about my classes as I did last semester. I guess I have gotten over the fear of the "unknown" of college life, class expectations, professors, etc. Of course, we'll just see if that stays the same the closer midterms come.

Valentine's Day is Saturday. I am excited even though my boyfriend, Ben, is two states away in Oklahoma at boot camp. I just want to venture off on a side note. When I came to college I met people all around me who were in long-distant relationships, just broke up, etc. I just want to say, even though I had my previous doubts, long-distant relationships can work. Don't get me wrong. They do take a lot of extra work, involve some heartache, and aren't always easy. I guess it either makes or breaks the couple. Well, anyhow, with Valentine's fast approaching you would think I would be down. Yet, it is just the opposite. Thursday night my Campus Crusade group is having a "viking" dinner which the guys are cooking for the girls (will tell more later). Friday night a bunch of just girls are getting together to hang out, eat, and make purses. So, even without a valentine you can still have a blast on that day of love. I have a group of girl friends who are gathering together for an Anti-Valentine's day. They are all wearing black, watching chic flicks, and cooking cookies. They said guys could only come if they wore pink, but they'd have to "watch their back". I thought it was kind of hilarious. That's my friends.

I took a picture of a package that my boyfriend Ben sent me. Why? Well, I feel like a big little kid and am all excited when I recieve stuff in the mail. My Aunt Arvella, grandparents, parents, sister, and my Aunt Francis are regulars in sending me stuff. So, I just want to say "thanks!" to everyone for their thoughtfullness. I guess that is also why I took a picture of my group of teddy bears. I have recieved more stuffed animals since being in college, but that okay. In fact, it's kind of cool. I guess I am just a big dweeb. Well, now that I have embarassed myself fully I guess I will log off.

Finally, here are some pictures of my new room in Mynders Hall. It took awhile to get my room back together.

Diary Photo

My friend Izzy said that I had the cleanest dorm room she'd ever seen. Yet, my mom knows that this is a mere deception.

Diary Photo

Kinda boring, but I was trying to take pictures for a complete view of my room.

Diary Photo

One desk I use for entertainment stuff (i.e. tv and vcr) and I use the other for studying. Yet, in reality you can't really study in a dorm room. It doesn't matter how quiet it is. There is always something you would rather do in your room. So, I go to the study lounge.

Diary Photo

It's nice to have all this drawer space for my always accumulating junk.

Diary Photo

The lights I hang from the ceiling blink. They get on my nerves and I have to turn them off, but they are still pretty.

Diary Photo

Here is my ever growing collection of stuffed animals. It's okay to be a kid again when you are in college. It's sorta like your last chance.

Diary Photo

I don't know why I took this picture, but here is some random stuff. Most dorm rooms don't match, have wierd collections, and that's just a given.

Diary Photo

After locking myself out for the second time this semester, I decided to hang my keys on my doorknob. My old door you had to physically lock, but this door locks itself.

It's great getting packages in the mail, especially when all you are used to is only cobwebs. Here's the contents of one package from my boyfriend, Ben. He's away at boot camp and sent an early Valentine's day gift.
