Weekend Getaways

Wow!  I can't believe it has been over a month since I started college here.  I'll admit, there were times when time slowly dragged its feet.  Yet, for the most part time seems to have flown by.  I am always kept busy during the weekdays with class, homework, and other activities.  After my second weekend here with nothing to do, though, I decided to make sure I didn't have another "boring" weekend.  Little did I know that after four weekends of going nonstop, I would yearn for "boring".

As you may know by now, I don't have a car.  This, before I left home, I thought would be the end of my social life as we know it.  Instead, it actually became a tool that has extended (more like began) my social activities through the acquaintance with new friends and those that have become my "personal chauffeurs" (side note: Thanks to my friends who have taken care of me!)  So, without having a car I end up being stuck on campus during the weekends.  Don't get me wrong, there is stuff to do.  There just wasn't enough stuff to keep me busy through the weekend here, being that I always have to have something to do.  That is why I decided to set up something off campus with my family, friends, or campus groups.  In fact, I ended up having something for four weekends in a row.  My family and friends back home joke that they can never catch the "party girl" (side note:  I don't go to parties and usually stayed home on weekends reading.  That's why it is a joke.)  I am going to proceed to tell you about two of my past weekends.

The first weekend I attended the Fall Retreat in Camp Linden with the Campus Crusaders for Christ group that I am involved with on campus.  We had a blast!  We caravanned to Camp Linden in four cars, with four guys and seven girls (poor guys).  And if that experience wasn't fun enough, we got to know other Tennessee Campus Crusade groups from: MTSU, Bethel College (my Bethel peeps rock!), Christian Brothers, etc.  That was really neat to be able to interact, worship, and learn with the other groups.  Plus, you really bond when you are in the same cabin along with over thirty girls and squeaky, plastic bunk bed mattresses that have the great possibility of keeping you awake through the night.  Plus, it gave me an opportunity to see some friends from the other colleges that I hadn't seen in awhile.  But most of all, God was really awesome through that weekend.

Then, this past weekend I went up with my Fusion group (my college group from my church) to our friend Christy's cabin on the lake.  It was crazy, yet fun.  It was a time to truly bond with eight-teen people in one little cabin.  We bonded over card games, lack of sleep, hanging, paddle boating, skiing, and the sugary sweetness of smores.   It was a nice time to relax and enjoy getting to know each other.  But, again, my favorite part of the whole weekend was when God worked.  This happened when after smore-making when one of the girls played on her guitar, while others joined in praise songs.  It was a pretty awesome site to be praising God around the campfire and in the midst of His creation.

Well, believe me that was just two weekends in a nutshell.  There is much more I could say, but not enough space.  I plan to go this weekend with the Baptist Student Union group to the college conference in Nashville, TN this weekend.  I will try to bring back pictures and a story for that next week.  Then, the next weekend the "party girl" will finally return home for Fall Break.  It will almost be nice to not have something to do, for once.  I guess I am just another case of the grass being greener on the other side.

(Note: The following pictures are all of my Campus Crusade Retreat because my camera battery went dead the other weekend.)

Our last night there, we had a big bonfire with smores and a time of worship.

Here is me and my friend Sheeka making yummy smores.

Here is Emily and Andrea, who are also enjoying the sugar high of smore-making.

Here are some of my friends from Bethel college. The guy in the red is Eric and it looks as if he doesn't need any more smores. Eric, you know I love you in Christ bro.

Here is another example of the bad effect of smores. My friend Cindi and I just wanted to take a sweet, innocent picture (like us) until we were attacked by the Hershel.

Now this picture, just demonstrates the bonding experience that happens with too little sleep. Don't you love his fashion?

Here I am with the Bethel girls before they left.

Here are some of the Bethel guys. Aren't they so cool?
