Countdown to Winter Break

Some people joke with me saying that it is bad that I have "senioritis" carried over from high school as a freshman in college. I really don't have "senioritis", but I will admit I am ready for the month-long break for Christmas. It will be nice to take a break and go home from college. Yet, I can't let my mind drift off quite yet to mom's home cooking and sleeping in late because I still have about a month of college and along with that comes class, test, papers, and final exams.

These last few weeks of the semester will really determine my grades. So, there's no pressure whatsoever. That's one thing I wish I knew before coming to college. That not only are grades based mainly on a few tests and a final exam, but also that the grading scale is quite different here. For example, in high school an A on our grading scale was a 94-100 and a C was 80-85 below.

Here a 90-100 can equal an A and 70-80 can equal a C. Yet, don't get your hopes up because the grading scale varies from class to class. It all depends on your professor. So, I try not to stress out about my grades while my mind makes the change from a different grading scale.

Even though I am ready for a break, I know I will miss college life once at home. Well, I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. I mean this semester has really seemed to fly by so fast! I have had so much fun making new friends, starting classes, and discovering Memphis and what the University has to over. I am really enjoying my job in the Registrar's office. Working on-campus actually has helped me manage my time better. I am excited about tomorrow night because the Baptist Student Center is having a dinner theatre and doing their version of "The Princess Bride". I am serving dinner, which should be interesting. Also, this weekend I am going to a training seminar with my Campus Crusaders for Christ group where I will learn how to share my faith. Then, on Sunday after church my college group is going to eat Indian food at a local restaurant. I have never had Indian food. So, I am excited and, as usual, busy.

My friends back at home laugh saying that I never seem to have time to go to class with all the other activities going on. Actually, it's the quite opposite. I have to find the time to fit in those activities in between my class schedule. Next semester I will be going to class even more.

This past week I registered on-line for 19 hours. I will be going non-stop Monday through Thursday. I decided to try out one night class and an eight o'clock morning class. Yes, I am definitely one, brave woman.  Hopefully it will be manageable because a few of my classes are still general education classes that shouldn't be too hard. If it is too much, I can always drop a class. One of my academic advisors joked that, between 19 hours of class and 15 hours working on-campus, I wouldn't have a life. Yet, in the words of my mother, "You are first a student." Oh, well I guess I will see how it goes.

Sometimes it is nice to just take a break and look around yourself. Look at the beautiful clouds! This picture is taken next to the Administration building.

Diary Photo

Sometimes, though, looking around you may find something unexpected. For example, a weed in denial. This is a tribute to my friend Thom, the duct tape king.

Diary Photo

Again, here is another interesting sign I found while walking to class.

Diary Photo

After those last few pictures, here is one that shows I still have a life. This is of Rebecca St. James at a recent concert I went to.

Diary Photo

Rebecca St. James really has awesome concerts. Here I took this picture while in the mosh pit.

Diary Photo

That's one of the greatest things about Memphis. There are always cool concerts to go to. Rebecca St. James concert is the Britney Spears of Christian music, but much bettter. She is an awesome role model.

Diary Photo

Here are my Jackson friends Adrian, Shannon, and Tammy enjoying the concert. Well, except maybe for the bright camera flash.

Diary Photo

Here are some of my Campus Crusade friends Barry, Austin, and Virginia. They too would be enjoying the concert if it wasn't for my click happiness.

Diary Photo

Wow! Here is proof that I actually attended the concert. It's wierd to not be behind the camera.

Diary Photo

Afterwards, I got autographs from the members of the bands and a quick photo.

Diary Photo

This is an old picture from Halloween. The Campus Crusaders and Impact got together for a night of prayer and praise in the University Center. This is afterwards where we were working on our dance moves.

Diary Photo

Here's a pic from my last visit home. This is my friend David. I was with friends hanging out at Bubba's Bagels listening to an awesome Christian band. Memphis definitly needs a Bubba's.

Diary Photo

My dear friend Diane cooked us a wonderful Italian meal. They are holding our favorite cabbage salad. Yum!

Diary Photo

These guys just couldn't get enough of Diane's cooking.

Time for clean up. Hey, where did everybody go?
