Rest, Relaxation, and Tigers Basketball.

The University of Memphis Football Team is on the brink of making history. In the next three weeks they will attempt to go to a bowl for the first time since I was born. DeAngelo Williams is turning in one of the best seasons in Tiger history. Although no one will try and belittle or take away what the football team has done and will do this year, any Memphis fan will tell you that this is the time of year they look forward to. With no disrespect to Williams and Danny Wimprine, John Calipari is the biggest name in Tiger Athletics. The great thing is, as a student, I get to be there in the first row to see all three perform.

The heralded men's basketball coach unveiled his 2003-2004 team last Tuesday night against the well overmatched Universal All-Stars. The bright spot for the All-Stars was the fact they had former Tiger standout Kelly Wise at center. The downside, Wise was only a shadow of his former self and was abused by his former team. The Tigers came out firing and never looked back, eventually winning by forty.

There were many bright spots for Memphis, but a few stood out above the rest. Rodney Carney began his sophomore season by hitting 9 of 12 threes on his way to dropping 38 points. Antonio Burks was still the fastest player on the court and took it to the basket whenever he wanted to. Freshman Sean Banks proved he cannot only play, but excel, at the college level. Anthony Rice was as solid as ever and the rest of the team played exceptional games as well. The future looks bright for the young, but talented, Memphis Basketball Program and I encourage everyone to come out and see this very athletic, exciting team.

As for me, last week was a breath of fresh air. A week spent of laying around playing XBOX, lifting weights, and eating at places other than Taco Bell. I will say that we are lucky to live next to arguably the best Taco Bell in the world, but it gets old after eating there every night. To make it even better, I was able to spend the entire weekend watching football games. Too bad Memphis was not playing considering that this was my first Saturday off since the Ole Miss game, which I spent on the first row cheering on my new team against my former team. I know what you're thinking, I forgot to study. I am going to study eventually, I am just enjoying having nothing to do right now.

I looks like Pouncer needs to get his mind on the game. But can you blame him?
